How to Save a Life- Suicide Prevention Training

How to save a life is a training that helps people identify when others are at risk for suicide.  The training helps people become more comfortable with asking about suicide, connecting with the person in a struggle and how to make the best type of referral.

Suicide Risk and Veterans is a an educational talk which examines veterans has a special population that has a higher than average risk.

How Can We Reduce the Suicide Risk for Our LGBT Community?

Suicide risk is high in the population of people who identify as LGBT.  This educational/training talk will examine the specific risk factors and protective factors for this group.  This talk will include training in asking about suicide and making a referral.

These meetings will be engaging discussion groups aimed at getting different parts of the campus together to explore what our community should do to help with the members of our community struggling with suicidal thoughts.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) - 2 day training, 3 times a year

This is an intense two-day training offered at COFC three times a year. Small group discussions and skills practice are based on adult learning principles. ASIST teaches Pathway for Assisting Life (PAL), a practical guide to doing suicide interventions. This is especially recommended for staff in residence life and

ASIST T4T (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) - 5 day training

ASIST T4T is a five-day course that prepares local resource persons to be trainers of the ASIST workshop. There is a network of 5,000 active trainers around the world. Before applying, all candidates must read the Essential Information for Candidates and Trainer Competencies pages before registering. (Programs/ASIST T4T section).

ASIST trainers often rate the T4T course as one of the most rewarding, challenging and empowering learning programs they have attended. You will also find being an ASIST trainer very rewarding. Benefits aside, you need to know what you are getting into because becoming and maintaining the standards of a trainer are hard work. IMPORTANT: Be aware when making travel arrangements that candidates must attend all sessions of the five-day course.
